Biography of Nels Fremstad from "The History of The St. Croix Valley" published in 1909
Nels Fremstad, a farmer of Black Brook Township, was born in Norway, September 13, 1863, Son of Ole and Carrie Fremstad, who came to America in 1882 and settled in the township on the farm where our subject still lives, the old folks now making their home with him. Nels received his education in the old country and then took up farming with his father, which he has since continued. He owns 200 acres of good land, 75 acres being under the plow. Upon this farm he carries on general farming, making a specialty of dairying.
He is a stockholder in the Cooperative creamery at Clear Lake and winters as many as thirty head of cattle, five horses and fifty sheep. He does general farming and has met with great success, owing everthing that he possesses to his hard work and industry. He was $320 in debt when he came here, but has since reached comfortable circumstances. Mr. Fremstad is a Republican in politics and has served on the side board of the township with much credit. He was married in 1888 to Carrie Horgan, by whom he has three children: Oscar, Melvin and Nora, all of whom are at home.
